There are two summer internship opportunities, not yet awarded for summer 2023.
The Howard Johnson Memorial Fund, endowed in perpetuity, was created in 2015… to honor the memory of Howard Johnson, FCHS 1970 (1952-1971). Awards provide financial support for paid summer internships that would otherwise be unpaid or not exist at all. The awards will likely range between $2500 and $3500 for a commitment of 150-250 hours. These are not scholarships, in the sense that scholarships are paid directly to a college or university that the student plans to attend. The money awarded will be paid directly to the student.
The two internship opportunities are similar. One is to be based at Louisville Waterfront Botanical Gardens, off River Road. The other is at Yew Dell Botanical Gardens in Crestwood, KY (about 15 minutes from the Lewis and Clark Bridge, off of I-71). Both offer very flexible scheduling of the internship (hours of the day, as well as days of the week). They can vary by start date and end date, from six to ten weeks In both cases, there can be a broad range of duties, with a likely emphasis on summer youth education programs for students from fourth to tenth grade.
An applicant MUST act quickly to schedule an interview at one of the two locations. The contact to schedule the interview must occur by May 24 and the interview needs to occur by May 26.
Attached is a flyer for distribution and an application form. All applications should be coordinated with Mrs. Jessica Simler.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for further details.
