All this week Student Council will be selling Valentine’s Crush Cans in the spine for a $1.00 to help support Blessings in a Backpack.  All purchases will be delivered on Valentine’s Day.  Send one or more to your bestie, your crush or even your favorite staff member to say thanks for everything! 
 
Dance Marathon Spirit Week tomorrow is Disney Day – put your mouse ears on and have a magical time.
Wednesday – Wear any shade of RED to show you Riley Hospital support
Thursday – Heroes – be your favorite superhero or wear scrubs in honor of nurses and doctors at Riley’s.
Friday – Wild West & Hat Day (you must pay $1 to wear a hat to school)  This year’s dance theme is the Wild West.
 
Anyone boy interested in volleyball this year needs to attend the open gym tonight 6:30pm – 8:00pm.
 
Girls’ track will meet Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 2:45 in the MPR room.

 

There will be a visit this Wednesday, Feb. 7th at lunch in the spine for students interested in the dental and healthcare fields.

 

The Science Olympiad team won 1st place at the Bloomington Regional on Saturday for the 3rd year in a row.  Special thanks to our seniors on the team – Jackson Konty, Savannah Schroering, Mary Werner, Joey Bowling and Shelby Pennington. The team will compete in March at the State Science Olympiad Tournament on the IU Bloomington campus.  Good luck to all.

 

The wrestling team placed 3rd at the Bloomington South Regional this past weekend and advanced 6 wrestlers on to the Semi-State: Jackson Hussung placed 4th, Josh Foster 3rd, >  Gavinn Alstott and Jonathan Kervin were Runner-ups and Tristan Sellmer and Devon Stikes were Regional Champions. The team will compete in the Semi-State at the Ford Center in Evansville next Saturday.

 

The girls swimming & diving team won Sectional on Saturday.  The following advanced to state on Friday: Grace Allen, Summer Allen, Colleen Carey, Emma Love, Sydney Moeller, Anna Perkins & Lauren Thompson.  Lauren Thompson won the 100 butterfly & 100 backstroke setting school records in both events; Emma Love won the 50 freestyle and Emma, Lauren, Grace & Colleen won the 200 freestyle relay and set a school record. Anya Davenport advanced to the Bloomington North Diving Regional tomorrow as she also set the school records of 11 dives.

 

Students taking AP classes need to complete the required Online AP Exam registration by this Friday Feb. 2. To register, click on the link provided on your google classroom page.

Prosser Applications are available in Student Services for students attending Prosser NEXT YEAR. You must complete the application with a recommendation before returning to their Counselor.   

U of L invites you to join them at DerbyHacks3! A 24 hour hackathon where students invent and create a project using computer programming and hardware. This event is FREE, and all food is provided and there will be free swag! No coding experience is required, but recommended so you can spend more time working towards a finished project. You must bring a laptop with you. To attend please sign up at DerbyHacks.io (more information is posted in the counseling area.)

If you are interested in a career in health science, representatives from U of L schools of dentistry, medicine, nursing and public health will be on hand to discuss skills needed in those fields.  Date is February 10.  Register online. 

A reminder that CURRENT 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students need to get 2 Hep A vaccines as required by the time you are a senior. The 2ndrequired doses of Hep A are to be given 6 months apart. Please do not wait until the last minute! Question? Come by the health office.

 

Lunch time tutoring is now available 4th period in the MPR during your lunch period. Bring your lunch and study materials to get extra help. If you have a question, see Mrs. Sowder or Ms. Eisner.

Indiana AEOP offers a $1000 scholarship to a student interested in pursuing business.  Deadline is February 5.  

DUE TODAY: Epsilon Sigma Alpha(ESA) offers several scholarship opportunities.  The application submission is done online.  Go towww.epsilonsigmaalpha.org/scholarships-and-grants to apply.  To find scholarships, click on the current list of ESA scholarships available by state you reside.  Deadline to apply is February 1, 2018.

Nancy Jaynes Scholarship is awarded to a senior whose parent is battling breast cancer or who has lost a parent to breast cancer. Visitwww.breastcancerplate.org to apply.

Georgetown Lions Club offers a scholarship to seniors with strong volunteerism. Applications are on the Scholarship Board. Deadline is April 2.
