To all Floyd Central Parents and Guardians--
2013 has begun with a flurry of activities at Floyd Central—despite the occasion snow flurry! Ballgames, Dazzler competition, homecoming, plays and concerts are all on the calendar and keep us busy in spite of the weather.
Resident astronomer and meteorologist C.J. Jackson has established a research-based link with the University of Louisville.
C.J. will work with two U of L professors to coordinate our planetarium with the portable planetarium learning system used by U of L. We look forward to the benefits of this partnership.
The photographic crew from Dance Spirit magazine, a nationally recognized dance journal, took up residence for a day at Floyd Central. The Dazzlers are the only high school team ever to be featured on the cover of the magazine. Photographers spent the day with the girls and we eagerly look forward to being the feature story.
We also have kicked off fundraising for our third annual Floyd Central Dance Marathon. Students and teachers joined together at the Pep Rally to do the “Riley Morale Dance,” which is performed at the end of the dance marathon. Last year we raised $24,503 for Riley. This year our “Reach for the Stars” goal is $30,000.The date is February 16th from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
We are already scheduling for the 2013-2014 school year. Our counselors took up residence in one of the computer labs for a week to assist each student personally with their schedule for next year. Schedules should be firm this spring before we dismiss for summer. Because we are moving to an online environment for registration, during registration week we will limit schedule changes to mistakes only. Remember, the first student day is August 1, 2013.
An additional reminder—the area next to the curb around the building is the fire lane and should not be used for parking.
