Scholarships

The Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship Application is now available.  Go to www.elks.org/enf/scholars to download an application.  Deadline is December 7.

Seniors, your scholarship form is due to a counselor by April 18.  Without this form, you will not be recognized at Class Day and Class Night.



April

Badger and Spiller offers a $2000 scholarship to a previous or present patient.  You must submit a one page typed essay describing how the experience of having braces impacted your life.  Deadline is April 15.

March

The Kappa Zeta Chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at the University of Louisville is pleased to offer a $500 scholarship. To be eligible for this scholarship you must be a male high school senior planning to attend the University of Louisville in the fall. Deadline is July 1.

Indiana State University offers an elementary education seminar where students will work with ISU faculty to explore teaching, experience teaching first hand and earn college credit and a college scholarship. Go to http://indstate.edu/experience for more information.

February

Visine Students with Vision Scholarship Program is offering one time $5000 scholarships to students who have demonstrated a clear vision or goal for their future.  Minimum GPA of 2.8 required.  Apply online at aim.applyists.net/Vision.  Deadline to apply is March 1.
Floyd County Solid Waste District is awarding one $1000 scholarship to a senior who resides in Floyd County, planning to major in Environmental Studies and have a GPA of 2.5 or better. Deadline to apply is March 29.


The Indiana Retired Teachers Association provides $500 scholarships for graduating seniors whose mother, father, grandparent, aunt or uncle is a teacher or retired teacher.  The relative must have been a member of the ISTA. Deadline is April 8.

Louisville Urban League Guild offers a scholarship to a graduating senior with a minimum ACT score of 18, 2.8 GPA, acceptance to a two or four year school, and exhibit financial need.  An essay is required.  Deadline is March 29.
 
Indiana Oil and Gas Association offers scholarships to seniors with minimum GPA of 3.0, financial need, showing an interest in the oil and gas field, attending an Indiana college and pursuing a bachelor’s degree, with preference given for Earth Sciences, Petroleum or Chemical Engineering, and Geology majors.  Go to www.inoga.org for more information.  Deadline is April 1.
 
Young Women's Institute at IU Kelley School of Business provides students a taste of the college experience and prepares young women for success.  Session dates are June 9-14 and June 16-21.  Must have a minimum GPA of 3.5.  Go to www.kelley.iu.edu/ugrad/

Clark Co. REMC offers scholarships for students attending IUS, Ivy Tech or Purdue next year.  Parent/Guardian must be members of Clark Co. REMC.  Deadline is March 15.

Farm Bureau offers a Foundation Scholarship Application of $500 to a student pursuing an agriculture or agribusiness degree. Student must be a member of Farm Bureau. Deadline is March 1. Farm Bureau offers a District 10 Scholarship of $500. Student must be entering an agriculture related field including but not limited to nutrition, veterinary, agriculture research, economics, marketing and other production agriculture courses. Deadline is March 1.


Norton Healthcare offers one $1000 scholarship to a student pursuing a health career in one of the following areas:  allied health, lab, medical assisting, nursing, pharmacy, radiology, therapy, information technology, or other healthcare field.  A 1500 word essay is required, along with minimum GPA of 3.0.  Applications are due to Ms. Newkirk by March 20th.


Kelley School of Business at IU offers a free summer program for women completing their junior year who have an interest in business.  Participants of the Young Women’s Institute attend one of the week-long sessions held from June 9-14 and June 16-21.  There is a selective process with a minimum GPA of 3.5 and an essay is required.  If you are interested, please see a counselor to be nominated.  Only two students can be nominated from FC.  Application is available until April 1.
 
Circle City Classic Scholarship is available to students with a GPA of at least 2.5 and student must exhibit financial need and be a first generation college student.  Essay is required.  Go to www.indianablackexpo.com for more information.  Application must be postmarked by April 16.

Ideal Beauty Academy offers scholarships of up to $3000 for students in cosmetology, esthetics and nail technology.  You must submit a photo of your work.  Your entry must be received by May 11.

September

September 28: Seniors...The Kevin Hammersmith Memorial Scholarship application is now available in Student Services.  This is formerly known as the Harvest Homecoming Who Wants to be a College Student? Scholarship.  The competition takes place at New Albany High School on October 1st at 7 pm.  Deadline to apply is September 28th.

September 18: Voice of Democracy has been the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ premier scholarship for many years.  Students complete by writing and recording a broadcast script on an annual patriotic theme.  This year’s theme is, Is Our Constitution Still Relevant? Top scholarship is $30,000.  This program is open to students in grades 9-12.  For more information, go to www.vfw.orgDeadline is November 1.
 

October

 October 1: Gilda’s Club Louisville offers support for children whose lives are touched by cancer. An essay contest with the theme: “It’s always something. This time it’s cancer.” offers a $500 award for students who are cancer survivors or who have a family member or friend who has/had cancer. This contest is open to students in grades 6-12. October 2: The Wendy's High School Heisman 2012 application is now available online. All senior student athletes with a B average are encouraged to apply!! The first 25,000 students who apply are guaranteed a Wendy's gift card. Go to www.wendysheisman.com to apply. Deadline is October 2.

 

October 25: The Horatio Alger Association offers scholarships up to $20,000 to students exhibiting financial need and integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. For more information, go to www.horatioalger.org/scholarships. Deadline is October 25.

October 26:

November

November 1: U.S. Senator Dan Coats is honored to have the opportunity to nominate outstanding students to the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, Merchant Marine Academy and West Point. As you may know, these are fully funded, four-year federal government programs to attend some of the most highly respected quality education programs in the nation, that also require military service after graduation. To be considered, students should complete and submit the application by November 1, 2012.

November 1: National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) announce an essay contest for students in grades 9-12, with the topic of Christopher Columbus. Awards will be given to each grade winner in the county and the overall winner of each essay. Essays must be postmarked by November 1.

November 9: Purdue College of Technology at New Albany offers Day in College on November 9th for students in grades 11-12. Classes presented in Day in College are specifically designed for high school students and their parents to meet the faculty, engage in hands-on lab activities and learn about the degrees offered at New Albany campus. Enrollment is limited to 50 students per session.  Go to Counselors Facebook page for form or see scholarship board.

November 15: Wabash College offers the Top Ten Scholarship Program for males in the top 10% of their class.  The scholarship is valued at $70,000 over four years.  Students must complete Early Decision application by November 15 or Early Action application by December 1 in order to be eligible. 

November 6: All students-If you’ve made a difference by volunteering in your community over the past year, you could win $1000 and a trip to Washington DC by applying for a Prudential Spirit of Community Award.  To apply, go to www.nassp.org/spirit

November 30: University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is looking for academically outstanding students interested in careers in medicine. The Connections Dual Admissions Program offers students the opportunity to be admitted to an undergraduate institution and a premier medical school at the same time. Indiana State University offers full tuition scholarships for four years as a Networks Scholar in the Scott College of Business.  Criteria requires that students pursue a major in business with the intent to pursue a career in the financial services industry.  Possible careers include:  financial planning, sales, marketing, insurance and risk management, accounting and information systems.  Students interested in any of these fields, see your counselor for more details or go to www.isunetworks.org  or more information.  Applications received by December 1 will receive preferred consideration.

December 17:Graduating seniors who operate their own small business are eligible to receive a 2013 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award from the Young Entrepreneur Foundation. for more information, go to www.NFIB.com/YEA and apply online.Deadline is December 17.

AXA Achievement offers scholarships for students who have been active in the community and have led a project that benefits others. Go to www.axa-achievement.com for more information. Deadline is December 1.
 
Ronald McDonald House Charities offers scholarships for seniors who are exemplary role models in their communities and have the initiative to fulfill their educational goals. Go to www.rmhc.org for more information. Deadline is December 20.

 
December 31: Laws of Life offers a scholarship up to $5000 to a student who creates a written or video response to finding purpose in one’s life.  For more information, see the scholarship board.  Deadline is December 31.

January


January 4: IU Southeast offers the Adam W. Herbert Presidential Scholars Award for high school graduates of exceptional merit.  You must have a 3.5 GPA and 1150 on SAT(Critical Reading and Math) or 25 on  the ACT.  To be considered for this award, you must complete the self nomination form.  The form must be received by the IUS Financial office no later than January 4.

January 5:
Write an essay and you can win up to $10,000 through the John F. Kennedy Foundation. Deadline: January 5.

January 10: The GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program awards roughly 20 college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity and citizenship with $10,000 renewable schoalrships per recipient.  For requirements and application, visit www.reaganfoundation.org/scholarshipsDeadline is January 10

April 8:

Burger King Scholars program offers schularships for employees and children of employees.  Go to www.bkmclamorefoundation.org/WhatWeDo/ScholarsProgram to apply.  Deadline is January 10.  University of Dayton offers a scholarship for one graduating senior.  Leadership in Service Scholarship is worth $10,000 for a student who has an innate desire for personal development and is committed to service within his or her school, church or community.  If you are interested in attending University of Dayton, please see a counselor.  Deadline is February 15. 


January 15: Indiana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance offers a scholarship opportunity for students who plan to pursue a career in health, PE, Dance or Sport Administration. Four $500 scholarships will be given to high school seniors. Go to www.inahperd.org for more information. Applications due January 15, 2013.

Generation Ali Global Citizenship Scholarship Program offers scholarships up to $10,000 for students who exhibit greatness in Confidence, Conviction, Dedication, Giving, Respect and Spirituality.  Submit your application at www.generationali.org.  Deadline is January 15. 

January 25: Knights of Pythias offers scholarships of $1000 to seniors with a 3.0 GPA or higher.  An essay is required with application.  Go to www.knightsofpythiasofnewcastle.com for application.  Deadline is January 25.

February 1: EschoolView offers scholarships in web design. Scholarships range from $1000 to $5000. Go to www.eschoolview.com/StudentScholarships for more information. Deadline is February 1.

February 8: Nancy Jaynes Memorial Scholarship is a $1500 award given to a senior whose parent is battling breast cancer or who has lost a parent to breast cancer.  Go to www.breastcancerplate.org for more information.  Deadline is February 8.

February 8: The Indiana Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington D.C. is taken each year to provide young adults with the opportunity to travel to our nation's capital.  Tour goes from June 12-20.  To be eligible, students must have completed their junior year in high school and be enrolled their senior year.  Deadline to submit application and essay is February 8.

February 15: Kiwanis Indiana Foundation offers a $1200 scholarship to a senior attending an Indiana college after high school. Deadline is February 15.

February 15: Best Buy awards $1.1 million in schoalrships to teens who demonstrate good grades, commitment to community service and/or work experience. Deadline to apply is February 15.

February 18: Centra Foundation offers two $1000 scholarships to seniors who plan to pursue an undergraduate degree.  Students must have an account at Centra Credit Union to be eligible.  Applications are available at https://www.centra.org/#/student-scholarshipsDeadline is February 18.

February 28: Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) Louisville Metro Chapter offers a scholarship for seniors.  Go to www.pflaglouisville.org/scholarship for application.  Deadline is February 28.

March 1: The Nina Mason Pulliam Legacy Scholars program through IUPUI is for students who face hardships and adversity that often prevent them from having the opportunity to seek a college degree. The application can be accessed online at ivytech.edu/indianapolis/nina-scholars.html or nina.uc.iupui.edu. Application deadline is March 1. 

March 1: MAC Construction offers scholarships to graduating seniors pursuing a higher education in the construction industry (Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Five scholarships of $1000 for four years will be awarded to local students. Deadline is March 1.
 

March 15: Floyd County Extension Homemakers offers one $750 scholarship to a graduating senior.  Special consideration will be given for financial need.  Deadline is March 15.


March 16: Denny Crum Scholarship is available to students who have demonstrated a commitment to leadership and community service while pursuing a post-secondary education. Deadline is March 16.

March 31: Harrison REMC offers a scholarship for a student planning to attend IUS and receiving services from Harrison REMC.  One FCHS student will be awarded a $1000 scholarship payable to IUS.  Deadline is March 31.
 
 

April

April 8: Georgetown Lions Club offers a $1000 scholarship to one boy and one girl. Students must be committed to strong volunteerism to the community, state, nation and world. A 500 word essay detailing volunteer activities is required, along with references. Deadline to apply is April 8.

April 12: American Legion Auxiliary sponsors an Americanism Essay contest for students in grades 3-12.  The essay theme is What Freedom Do I Enjoy Most and winners will receive $50 and a $50 honorarium in the student’s name will be made to the Children of Warriors National Presidents’ Scholarship Fund.  Deadline is April 12.

April 15:
Sunnyside Master Gardeners offers scholarships to seniors pursuing a degree in horticultural or landscape design at the college level.  Deadline is April 15.

May 6: Ayn Rand Education offers essay contests for students in grades 10-12.  Go to aynrandeducation.org/essay-contests.html for more information.  Deadline is May 6. 

 

June

June 21: Big Sun Organization offers scholarships to young athletes. Scholarships of $500 are given to students who plan to attend a post secondary institute and are currently involved in some sport in the school or community.
