ALGEBRA II Honors Fall Semester

Course Description: Algebra II focuses on algebra as a means of representation and on algebraic methods as a problem-solving tool. We will also use graphing calculators as tools as we explore the language of algebra in verbal, tabular, graphical, and symbolic forms. We will cover all Common Core National Mathematics Standards for the course.
Textbook: Algebra 2, Holt, 2011..
Calculator: A TI-83 Plus, 84 or 84 Plus is required for this course. I discourage the 86 and 89s, as you will need to teach yourself how they operate. Please save the UPC (bar code) for me from the packaging! I reserve the right to delete all calculator games from your calculator if necessary.
Evaluation: Points will be accumulated from tests, quizzes, writing assignments, and homework. All assessments must be completed in pencil. Grades are recorded on a point system that is transferred into a percentage. A comprehensive final exam worth approximately 15% of the final grade will be given at the end of each semester. Grades will be earned as follows:

This grade scale is subject to change at the beginning of each semester and you will be told accordingly.
Writing Assignment: Indiana Writing Standard 10.4.1, Expository Composition, a Level Two Writing Task. Topic will be given to you in writing in class. Point value will be equal to a quiz.
Attendance and Tardy Policies: Review school policy in your planner.
Homework Policy: Homework will be assigned almost daily. It will be checked randomly. Choosing not to complete homework will hurt your grade.
Cheating: Cheating may cause you to receive an F on your transcript and removal from the course, among other possible penalties.
Expectations: We will adhere to all school policies, including dress code and no electronic devices in the classroom. Review your planner for all building policies.

1st 9 Weeks: Intro to Functions, Quadratics, Polynomials
2nd 9 Weeks:Exponential & Log Functions, Rational & Radical Functions, Properties of Functions
