Summer Drivers EducationSummer school driver education forms are due noon this Friday May 19thforms are available at the bookstore. Sessions will be offered in both June and July. June session will have the classroom portion from 8 – 11 starting on June 1st (10 days in the Classroom). Students must be 15 on or prior to June 1st. The July session will have the classroom portion from 12:15 to 3:15; starting on July 5th (10 days in the classroom). A student must be 15 on or prior to July 5th. Health Office Request – If a student has a health related issue (needs medication, needs to go home, etc.) they are to report to the health office first. Students are not to use their cellphones to call to go home per school policy.


Amy Cook and the PTO put on a show for the kids for the After Prom.  There was quite a bit to do for the kids.  Many students stayed until the bitter end at 3 in the morning.  It is a grueling event for many parents.  THANK YOU to all who donated time, money and energy!


Congratulations to the softball, boys’ track and girls’ track teams for winning the HHC Championships last week.  Sectional is coming up for all spring sports in the next few weeks.  We host several, such as the Girls’ Track sectional on Tuesday and Girls’ Softball the following week.

FC Theatre big Announcement –   We have been asked by Disney Theatricals and Music Theatre International to produce a pilot production of Newsies, the hit Broadway musical.  Disney will be collaborating with us to make final adjustments to the script and score before they officially publish it and release the rights for any school to perform.  This will be a unique experience for our students and is an incredible honor for our school. If you are familiar with Newsies, you know that it features a ton of dancing newsboys.  The choreography in this show is highly athletic.  If you have any students that might be interested in this opportunity, encourage them to come talk to me.  We will be offering physical training over the summer for students that want to audition in the fall.  Boys that can tumble, are particularly coordinated, or just have a charismatic personality could be a great fit for the show.  We will also be casting a number of girls as Newsies so any student in the school is welcome to audition!

Class Night for seniors is Wednesday, May 17th at 7 pm and Class Day is Friday, May 19th at 8 am.  Names of students being recognized for both programs are posted in the counseling area, bookstore and outside of the attendance office.  Letters were just sent home as well.  Parents/Guardians are invited to both.  Students, please check the list often, as there will be additions to the program up to the time of the program.  Also, if you have received any other scholarships, please see Mrs. Simler so you can be recognized for it.

Relay For Life Event – On June 16th our Student Council and members of our staff will be walking in support of the American Cancer Society at the Relay For Life Event.

“Join us at Scribner Middle School to bring communities together to remember loved ones lost, honor survivors of all cancers, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society make a global impact on cancer.” – Relay For Life The event begins at 5:00pm on Friday evening at Scribner and we will be walking all night long! Camp Invention Looking for workers and volunteers– Camp Invention is a nationally recognized science camp. The district hosts this camp every year at FKE. We are in need of high school students to work as interns at the camp. They will get a letter of recommendation and volunteer hours- there is  also have a few paid positions available at this time. This is a great opportunity for any HS student, especially those interested in teaching! The camp dates are June 26-30th 8:30-3:30. I’m attaching a flyer above.  Seniors! Are you undecided about the future? The Howard Johnson Memorial Fund offers an internship to a graduating senior through Louisville Public Media, New Albany Floyd County Library and Baptist Health Floyd. The internship would take place this summer for 4,6, or 8 weeks. A $1500 award will be given for this internship, but you may be eligible for more through the organization.
